Write a poem about this Portrait
It should be 4-12 Lines
Parlor Games
I sit here amidst the rustle of satin,
Trying to be calm, interested but not too eager.
Wondering at the games we play,
Annoyed at the tightness of my corset.
Yet hopeful that Father may find one
Of our gentlemen callers a befitting suitor.
I smile shyly, as I have for each newcomer
Fancying somehow, romance with thrive
Despite Father’s strict business sense
in a matter I would prefer be of love.

GOF
–mini: mountain
challenged darkness drifting velvet rough starry mysterious immortal
pine
Your
assignment is to use ALL TEN words in a poem, and send it back
through this group so that everyone can read it. Do not change the words
in any way, except that you may add "s" to make the word
plural if necessary.
Immortality
I pine for you, and all those
who have gone before,
faces that have turned into a
sea of forgotten names.
A mountain of pain
has challenged the worth
of this mysterious immortal
state in which I exist.
My mind drifting slowly
through the history of time;
the sweet and sorrow of decades
when the nights were starry,
bright with silvery threads of moonlight.
I sit in this rough wasteland
day following night, yet indistinguishable
in this endless darkness which encompasses
all in a soft velvet fog.
Alone, I wait for nothing,
the price I now pay for my eternal life.

Children’s Theater
Cardboard pieces sprayed golden
hang from the ceiling
to create a starry night.
Drifting bits of paper fall
creating a small mountain of snow.
The darkness broken by candles
tied to the immortal pine being lit.
Girls in velvet dresses dance proudly.
Boys follow with rough awkward steps
and blushing cheeks.
We are challenged to see beyond
the reality of the crude scenery
and become absorbed
in the mysterious adventures
of childhood fantasy
and enjoy the spirit
of our children’s production.

Did
you know that the word MESMERIZE, meaning
hypnotize or spellbind,
comes from the German physician Franz Anton Mesmer (1734-1815)?
His system of therapeutics, known as mesmerism, was
the forerunner of the modern practice of hypnotism.
Forms of the word MESMERIZE are
often used in poetry. Your 3rd mini assignment for October is to write a
four-line verse using the word MESMERIZE (or you may use
MESMERIZED, or MESMERIZING).
I sit with tears inadvertently trickling, watching you,
Remembering your first smile, your first words.
Far to soon my child replaced by a young woman
mesmerizing in her gown of white and blushing cheeks.
