April  2005

Our theme for April 2005 was "Rainbows."

RAINBOWS AND PEBBLES

I am annoyed
as grass,
            a beetle,
and three pebbles
tumble out
of my son's jeans
into the washer.

I must learn
to treasure
the rainbows
in his pockets
The hopes,
       the dreams,
              and joys
they represent.

Inconvenienced
I retrieve
his loot
and find myself
         smiling.

For our Challenge Poems, we are given a list of ten words. Our challenge is to use all ten words (without change, except for the addition of "s" if necessary) to create a poem.

The challenge words were: mist, blue, horizon,
twilight, prelude, wings, whisper, compel, nature, and magic.

Prelude to Spring

Golden hues of light fade
enchanting the blue sky
with their melody,
dancing upon the horizon
in a ballad of crimson and pink.

Twilight’s prelude compels
the stars to arouse from their slumber
and take their place in heavens orb
where they serenade in silvery splendor
conjuring strange new magic.

The quiet wings of dawn waltz
boldly in a soft hazy mist
upon the darkened earth
harmoniously revealing
the beauty of natures rebirth.

Spring hanging like a whisper
frozen for a brief interlude
before the last opus.
Waiting to extol its aria
and enchant us all.
