Books
scattered across the floor
pages flutter in the breeze from the fan
I lay admits the mess scribbling
illegible notes, that I will later type.
My mind struggles
my thoughts wandering
from subject to subject,
as I thumb quickly through each book
marking pages with torn bits of paper
in an attempt to organize lessons.
Hoping they will challenge
the thoughts of my child.
I roll on my side as I read
more educational resources
wanting to be prepared
to answer her questions of life.
I contemplate the best methods
and what I should teach,
how much material
she should cover within a year.
Then my daughter pounces on me
We giggle and she asks me to read
a book about the solar system.
I indulge her knowing that
she will absorb all the knowledge
she wants and I can only be
a gentle guide and loving mom.
